"I Know A Secret" is the eighth studio album from Singer-songwriter Ginny Owens. Ginny has won 3 Dove awards and was named Gospel Music Association "New Artist of the Year" in 2000. This album is full of hope-filled songs that are both spiritually uplifting and catchy at the same time.

Ginny Owens is a Contemporary Christian music singer/songwriter. She was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and has been blind since the age of two. When she graduated from Belmont University with a degree in Music Education, she found that most people were skeptical about hiring a blind music teacher. Instead she concentrated on singing and songwriting and began making albums, which she has been producing since 1999. Owens has also received multiple awards from ASCAP and BMI Music Publishing, three Dove awards, including New Artist of the Year (2000).

The opening title track "I Know a Secret" is an engaging song, with Ginny's passionate vocals setting the tone for this exceptional effort. The album tells the story of redemption as each song gives a glimpse of how Ginny offers her Psalm-like prayers to God. The reflective opener is a wonderful prayer-song capturing Ginny's heart for God, allowing us to eavesdrop on her deep thoughts and musings.

"What My Life is For" has a contemporary pop musical feel. Ginny trusts in the Lord throughout the song, offering herself as a living sacrifice as she prays "Give a little more, take a little less, Live like there’s no tomorrow. Say a little thanks for every little thing ‘cause all I have is borrowed. It’s time to make a change,To let go of everything.Open up my hands, open up my doors,'cause love is what my life is for"

Next is the congregational friendly song "I Will Praise You" which showcases Ginny's gifts as a songwriter for the Church. The song includes the biblical and autobiographical lyrics "I will walk by faith, not sight / I will praise You / I will praise You in the deep, / for it's there that I will see the truth." The album is loaded with that type of worshipful truth as Ginny sincerely praises God for His goodness in every single song, with many references to Psalm 42.

"Deeper" is a vertically focused pop song also inspired by Psalm 42, including the lyrical word pictures "Your love's an ocean? I want to know You like never before, / Your arms are open and so I'm going deeper."

"Made for More" is my favorite track on the album. The song is loaded with lyrical nuggets for Christians looking for words to express their deep feelings and knowing that there must be more than this world: "C'mon lose yourself in the bigger mystery. / Your name was known before the earth was formed, you were made for more." The emotional bridge sings "Armies of angels fight for you to win. Trust the One who longs to free you." Have tissues handy, it is a gorgeous song.

I can't get enough of the piano-pop driven "No Borders." It is another standout song, with Ginny proclaiming "No borders, no boundaries, could ever be enough? Lord, I surrender to Your love," praising God for giving us what we don't deserve and for paving the way for righteousness.

God's promises us in His Word that His mercies are new every morning. Whatever situation you are facing you can know that God is with you, always. That truth is tenderly portrayed through "In This Darkness." Ginny praises the loving and sacrificial attributes of our Savior as she achingly sings, "This night is not my enemy. / There will be a sunrise soon, I holding on to all I have / Lord, all I have is You. / In this darkness still You find me, and You draw me to Your light.".

"Don't Waste Your Life" is a gorgeous closer. Ginny achingly sings this tender and prayerful ballad about God's faithfulness. I love the closing words of the song and album: "Don't waste your life, wishin' hopin', / waiting for a better day, trust me that would be a shame / shine your light bigger, brighter for the whole world to see / play your part in history, don't waste your life." Amen.

Closing Thoughts:

This is a Spirit-filled and emotional listening experience filled with profound lyrical truth. All fourteen songs are catchy, worshipful and biblically inspired. Ginny expresses her prayers to God, allowing listeners to eavesdrop on her vertical offerings and captivating ballads, one of Ginny's strengths. Ginny is an anointed songwriter, and she has a profound way of bringing me closer to God with her poignant words, tender singing and inspirational truths. I get welled-up singing along with several of the emotion-laden songs, especially "I Will Praise You," "Made for More," "In This Darkness" and "Don't Waste Your Life."
